Description: LYCOLATE I.M./I.V. Injection a is clear colorless solution. It contains 0.2mg/ml of glycopyrrolate and it belongs to a group of medicines called Anticholinergic Agent.

How LYCOLATE works?

LYCOLATE inhibits the action of acetylcholine on structures innervated by postganglionic cholinergic nerves and on smooth muscles that respond to acetylcholine but lack cholinergic innervation. LYCOLATE antagonises muscarinic symptoms (e.g. bronchorrhea, bronchospasm, bradycardia and intestinal hypermotility) induced by cholinergic drugs such as the anticholinesterases.

Therapeutic Indication:

  • To protect against some of the unwanted effects of drugs such as neostigmine or pyridostigmine, which are used to reverse the effects of certain type of muscle relaxing drugs (called non-depolarising muscle relaxants).
  • Before an operation, to reduce saliva and other secretions and to reduce acidity in the stomach contents.
  • Before or during an operation, to reduce or prevent slowness of the heartbeat during surgery.

Dosage and administration:

  • Preanesthetic medication
    Adults and older patients: 0.2mg to 0.4mg (or 0.004 to 0.005mg/kg, up to a maximum of 0.4mg) as I.V. or I.M. injection before the induction of anesthesia.
    Children: 0.004 to 0.008mg/kg, up to a maximum of 0.2mg) as I.V. or I.M. injection before the induction of anesthesia.
  • Intra-operative use
    Adults and older patients: 0.2mg to 0.4mg (or 0.004 to 0.005mg/kg, up to a maximum of 0.4mg) as I.V. may be used.
    Children: 0.2mg (or 0.004 to 0.008mg/kg, up to a maximum of 0.2mg) as I.V. may be used.
  • Reversal of neuromuscular blockade
    Adults and older patients: 0.2mg per 1mg of neostigmine or 5.0mg of pyridostigmine as I.V. may be used.
    Children: 0.01mg/kg with 0.05mg/kg neostigmine or equivalent dose of pyridostigmine as I.V. may be used.

This injection is not recommended for use in newborns.
